Gold! Award For Balfron 10K

The Balfron 10k in Stirlingshire achieved gold at the weekend in the race to a better environment.

Race organisers introduced a series of measures to reduce plastic waste in the environment. To support their brilliant initiative, we helped runners stay hydrated and protect the environment by providing refillable water bottles and temporary water bowsers, as part of the Your Water Your Life campaign.

Race participants were presented with wooden meals, which were made by a social enterprise group. Runners were encouraged to car-share to minimise air pollution and the event was also paper free, with all announcements made on digital platforms and participants encouraged to enter online.

Around 400 runners took part in the annual Mulberry Bush Montessori 10K this year, which started at the Balfron Campus, following a route through the village centre and taking in the beautiful surrounding Stirlingshire countryside.

Event organiser Julie Ross said:

To have Scottish Water’s support for our green ambitions in 2019 is hugely welcome.

We may be a small village race but, by teaming up with much bigger organisations who are at the forefront of the campaign to reduce single-use plastics, we can spread the word among the Scottish running community and beyond about the refill revolution.
