Irvine Harbour was once one of Scotland’s most important ports; only Glasgow was more prominent. Although not as busy as it once was, today there is still commercial sea traffic.
Irvine itself has a strong nautical history and is now home to the Scottish Maritime Museum, located in a former shipyard building.
