Aboyne
Aboyne is a typical Deeside village.
Please note, this tap has been temporarily turned off due to cold temperatures.
There has been a small settlement at Aboyne since at least the 17th century, but the present day town really started taking shape in the 1820s when a major new bridge was built over the River Dee. A few years later, the arrival of railway and the establishment of a top quality golf club turned Aboyne into a popular Victorian country resort town.
The town sits on the eastern edge of the Cairngorms National Park and spreads out from a large open village green – venue of the annual Highland Games – which creates a real sense of space in the town centre. There is a good selection of shops and restaurants as well as places to stay and the town is the focus of the annual Aboyne and Deeside Festival held every year in July.
